John Pirie - 1939 - 2009

Sadly John Pirie (centre of picture), my great friend and fiddle player with the Tain Scottish Dance Band passed away on Monday 8th June. On a recent trip home to Scotland I managed a visit with John and we got a few tunes together at the Dingwall Accordion and Fiddle Club. It was such a pleasure to share the stage again with John but little did I know it would be my last tune with him.
John, along with Ali MacGregor took me "under their wings" so to speak and are undoubtably the reason I play and enjoy music so much to today. My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time.
As a tribute you can hear the Tain Scottish Dance Band playing the "Jubilee Jig" on my myspace page.

Texas Scottish Festival this weekend!

One of the best festivals I go to is on this weekend.
The Texas Scottish Festival in Arlington, TX is on from 5-7th June.

You can catch us on the Glenuig Tent all weekend, one of my favourite
groups will be there too, from Kansas, Tullamore.

latest...

I played with the brilliant Street Dogs this past Friday at the Roc Bar in Houston.
This was a warm up gig before they head out on tour for the next 3 weeks playing with The Offspring all over the country & into Canada. Great night it was too!! Hopefully there will be a couple more gigs with them in the summer at festivals in the north east. More details to follow....

Meanwhile, got my usual weekend gig coming up with Lonestar Stout at the Angel & Ox Irish Pub in Katy, TX.
Come out & catch us, Thursday 21st, Friday 22nd or Saturday 23rd May.

1st weekend in June sees Lonestar Stout up in Arlington for the Texas Scottish Festival & then the following weekend I'm back in Dallas for the Dallas City Arts Festival also with gigs at Lochrann's on Friday 12th June and Trinity Hall on Saturday 13th.

Back to Texas!

Back "home" to Texas earlier this week after a frantic break back in the UK.
Had a great time up at Moray Firth Radio with John the Prof & his team.
Met a lot of my old mates Saturday night & had a wee night out in Tain.

Jet lag a proving to be a problem, by 7pm I'm ready to call it a night, maybe it's my age?!

Anyway, the music is back in full swing since I returned. Got booked to play the International Accordion Festival in San Antonio this year. It sounds like an awesome festival. Takes place in October.
Did an interview last night for www.onlykaty.com . It's to do with an upcoming performance at iFest here in Houston. Got a phone interview with the BBC this Easter Sunday morning, discussing the Ali MacGregor's Music Collection music book and CD project.

Also, Ali MacGregor's Music Collection is available from iTunes, all proceeds to charity. Please take a listen & purchase a track or two if you can. Click here to listen

That's all for now, I'm "cream crackered"!

Cheers,

Shug
